Winter Hacks

Winter golf can be a challenge, but it doesn't have to be. By following a few simple tips, you can stay warm, play well, and enjoy your round even in the coldest conditions.

Dress for the weather

This may seem obvious, but it's important to dress warmly when playing golf in the winter. Layer up so that you can easily adjust your clothing as needed. A good base layer is a wicking material that will help to keep you dry. Add a mid-layer and outer layer for insulation. Be sure to wear gloves, a hat, and a scarf to protect your head, neck, and hands.

Choose the right clubs

The cold weather can affect how far your golf ball flies. In general, you'll need to club up one or two clubs in the winter. This is because the colder air is denser and will slow down your ball.

Keep your ball warm

Another way to maximize your distance is to keep your golf ball warm. You can do this by carrying it in your pocket or hand warmers between shots.

Take care of your greens

Winter greens can be more fragile than summer greens. To avoid damaging the greens, avoid walking on them when possible. If you do need to walk on a green, be sure to walk lightly and carefully.

Here are some additional winter golf hacks:

  • Use a hand warming pouch or the best golf mitts to keep your hands warm.

  • If you're using an electric trolley, use winter-specific wheels to reduce the impact you have on the course.

  • Tee your ball up slightly higher in the winter to increase launch angle.

  • Clean your clubs regularly to remove any mud or debris.

  • Take breaks to warm up, especially if you're starting to feel cold.

  • Drink plenty of fluids to stay hydrated.

By following these tips, you can enjoy a round of golf in the winter without any problems.
