Preview 151st Open Championship

The 151st British Open will be held at Royal Liverpool from July 16-23. The course is known for its long, challenging par 4s and demanding rough, making it a stern test for even the best golfers in the world.

Defending champion Cameron Smith, who won last year's Open at St. Andrews, goes into his defence with high confidence after winning the latest LIV event in Hertfordshire. Smith's win will make him on of the favourites to win again this year, along with Rory McIlroy, Jon Rahm, and Scottie Scheffler. McIlroy won his only Open title at Royal Liverpool back in 2018 and although his form has been patchy this year he still finished 2nd at the US Open a few weeks ago.

Other top contenders include Dustin Johnson, Brooks Koepka, and Rickie Fowler. Fowlers return towards the top of the rankings has had everyone on his side and he won his first event since 2019 just 2 weeks ago. Fowler was runner up to McIlroy in 2014 at this same venue.

The weather is expected to be mostly sunny and warm, with a few thunderstorms possible. The wind could also be a factor, as it can often gust up at Royal Liverpool.
