The first major of the year is finally here and my excitement levels couldn’t be higher. With Sky’s coverage now the excitement can only grow and they have coverage starting from today on the range moving into the par 3 event on Wednesday and almost full coverage of the 3 days. Personally, for the game to grow I do believe more should be done to get these events of free to air TV but that’s a different story.
Until he makes a decision this week is going to be dominated by Tiger Woods, will he wont he play? He has played a couple practice rounds at Augusta National already which sparked the hype but with no real indication how he got on we don’t know if he’ll play. Tiger said it’s a decision he’ll make nearer the start on Thursday. The suggestion is will he be able to walk round 4 days at Augusta, if he makes the cut, and be competitive enough for him to play. Tiger is unlikely to play if he feels he is just making up the numbers, he will truly believe he can win.
Although I’m sure the rest of the field will be wondering if Tiger is going to play, it may actually help them in their own preparations. All the media will be covering Tiger so much it will leave the other to have a bit more time out of the spot light.
A couple months ago I looked at the top 4 in the better, Jon Rahm, Jordan Spieth, Colin Morikawa and Dustin Johnson. All 4 still with a great chance of winning but one more name has to be added to that list. Scottie Scheffler. Having won 3 of his previous 5 competitions he has risen to world number 1 and is in better form than anyone. He is yet to win a major but could his good form continue?
For me my money is on Dustin Johnson. Having already won round Augusta and showing some good form in the WGC Match Play it wouldn’t surprise me if he is the winner come Sunday night. The experience he has will be extremely helpful and his form has returned at the right time.
Who do you think is going to win?
