New Year New Goals

Hi there, I hope you have had a great time over the festive break and are looking forward to the year ahead.

This is the time that everyone starts setting goals with new hope that this will be the year and usually by February its all gone out the window.......

To try and make it easier I always ask my players to either pick a handicap goal or a score goal. This is then the main goal for the year and we can look at how we can break that down into small manageable goals that can be worked on through out the year. This should hopefully increase the likelihood of achieving the overall goal.

One of the biggest mistakes I see people making is trying to get everything done as early as possible. If the aim is to break 90 it doesn't need to be done by March you have the year to do it. By working towards it properly and breaking it down you are more likely to achieve the goal and maintain that improvement. Going out and shooting 89 once in the year but then going back to shooting in the 90's every week isn't really an improvement. If it takes 9 months to break 90 but then you do it on 5 more occasions till the end of the year the improvements have had a bigger impact so when we get to this same point next year you can choose a new goal to improve further rather than trying to break 90 again next year.

Let me know what your goals are for the coming year in the comments below.
